It’s typical for spiritual directors to provide new directees with a spiritual direction agreement. Please read the following agreement and submit it before our first appointment. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Overview

Spiritual direction is intended to facilitate personal awareness of God’s presence, voice, and activity, as well as to help you discern how you wish to respond to these things. Spiritual direction is distinct from other helping ministries such as psychotherapy, counseling (pastoral or otherwise), or mentoring/discipleship. Nonetheless, our time together may feature deep personal sharing and exploration of personal crisis and suffering.

My role as your spiritual director is not to analyze or fix you; it is to provide an unhurried and prayerful space (often featuring silence), to ask precise yet gentle questions which invite deeper understanding and reflection, and to listen to you attentively and compassionately. I may refer you to another spiritual director or helping ministry at any time at your request or if I feel that another would better serve you.

Our appointments are about 50 minutes each. I am prioritizing directees who are committed to meeting monthly for at least six months to a year. Either one of us is free to end our spiritual direction relationship; we simply need to inform one another.

Membership and Accountability

  • I am a member of Sustainable Faith Affiliates and I ascribe to its code of ethics.
  • I have regular appointments with my own spiritual director, as well as supervision. These appointments reflect my commitment to personal and professional wholeness.

Confidentiality

  • I hold our appointments, conversation, and your identity in strict confidence. You are free to share anything about our spiritual direction relationship with anyone you choose.
  • As is customary for spiritual directors, I may share aspects of our appointments and conversation with other spiritual directors/supervisors solely for the purposes of supervision, consultation, and professional growth. However, if I do so, I will not reveal your identity and those with whom I share ascribe to similar ethical guidelines that I do.
  • If you share something involving harm to yourself or others – including suspected cases of child or elder abuse – I am legally required to report this information.

  • Monday – Thursday: 9:15 am – 11:30 am (central time)
    • * In-person appointments are available on Tuesdays only.
    • Online appointments are available any day.

  • Appointments typically fill up a month in advance – if you can, feel free to book a few appointments at a time.
  • At our first appointment, we’ll spend a little time getting to know each other and generally chatting about spiritual direction in case you have any questions, etc.

Cost and Payment

  • $70 / session.
    • If you have a Canadian bank account, you can pay with Interac e-transfer, and the rate is CAD $70.  
    • If you don’t have a Canadian bank account, you can pay online via Stripe, and the rate is USD $73.04 (the USD $3.04 is a transaction fee that covers online payments).

Cancellation

  • Available appointment times are limited. If you need to cancel a  spiritual direction appointment, please do so at least 48 hours beforehand. This increases the likelihood of someone else being able to book an appointment at that time.
  • Unless there are extenuating circumstances, missed appointments or cancellations within 48 hours of an appointment will be charged the regular spiritual direction fee.
